Transportation of pets to London: all the journey procedures

If you are thinking of moving from Italy to England, Wales or Scotland and would like to take your best friend with you, all you have to do is follow the regulation governing air traffic of the concerned country.
The transportation of pets to London may seem complicated, but it actually isn’t.
After the elimination of the quarantine, which was compulsory until 2011, the paperwork is much more simple and streamlined.

The transportation of pets to London is governed by a regulation that requires:

  • Microchip;
  • Antirabies vaccination, that has to be made at least 21 days prior to the departure;
  • Pet passport or vaccination booklet;
  • Health Certificate, the pet must arrive in Great Britain within 10 days of the health certificate being issued;
  • In addition to the above, only for dogs, a vermifuge and antiparasitic treatment is required. The treatment must have been given no less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours (5 days) before you enter Great Britain.

All vaccinations and treatments must be recorded on the European passport/vaccination booklet by the veterinarian.

The rules for bringing your pet into Great Britain depend on what country you’re coming from. The information here reported are valid if you are from EU countries. As regards the travel conditions, the transportation of pets from Italy to the United Kingdom requires that the embarkation of our furry friends be made as cargo and not as a passenger’s check-in baggage. The airport of entry in London is usually Heathrow or Gatwick, depending on the routings available.

  • Japanese Tosa
  • Dogo Argentino
  • Fila Brasileiro
